Hello and welcome!
We first want to thank you for your interest in auditioning for our production of Kinky Boots!
This is going to be a very big show so there is a lot to learn.
We do ask that you truly consider the time commitment to a project of this scale.
Our scheduling of rehearsals will be built around the cast once we get our cast solidified, so there is some flexibility.
Once we get into the throes of tech week, we ask that you plan your schedule accordingly.
The time we have set aside is required to get the final pieces in place. All actors will be required to sing for the entire score.
The majority of us are drag performers, so perfection is not the goal. Effort is.
While we want a great sounding show, we do realize we are not a Broadway Stage or even GEVA.
Once the show is cast, we will have preliminary music rehearsals peppered throughout the summer to help with learning the music as well as gain confidence in your singing abilities.
I want to reiterate, we are NOT looking for perfection.
We are looking for those willing to make EFFORT.

What to Prepare

  • Please come with a 60 second monologue of your choosing, either memorized or read
from a comedy. (This can be a tv, movie, play, musical)
  • Please wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in. You will be taught a very basic
    dance for your audition.
  • Please prepare a song selection from the following choices from the Karafun Library:
    ○ History of Wrong Guys
    ○ Not My Father’s Son
    ○ Raise You Up/Just Be
  • This show will feature drag performers, regular actors, and everyone in-between.

AUDITION SETUP/PLAN
This year auditions will be held a bit differently. You will be required to stick around after you
have done the solo section. Please bring headphones, a book, or something to keep you
entertained until the group section begins. There will be a few copies of the libretto available
to you to read as well. The timeline is as follows:

6pm-Everyone needs to be here on time.**

to us. We can be creative on HOW we interpret the lines, but not the lines themselves. If
this is going to be an issue for you, please do not audition.
  • Rehearsals and the show are taking place at ROAR. If you are cast and not of drinking age
and caught drinking, you will be removed from the show immediately.

we needed to from that section of audition.

We want to thank you for your interest in this project. Best of Luck!

A brief synopsis for those who unfamiliar with the material:

Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos.
The musical is based off the movie by the same name.
We do encourage you to watch both versions, both available on streaming services.
HOWEVER, we do ask that you not base your interpretations on these versions.
We want everyone to make this our own while still staying true to the script and story.
